Let’s talk about the weekend.

Kerry

Well round 5 of the national league is done and dusted and so far it’s Kerry that are sitting pretty top of the pack of Division 1. This year they have brought through some really talented players that are used to winning All Irelands and it shows.  Step up one Sean O’Se.  What a talent.  Maurice Fitzgerald-esque if you will.  His sideline point v Monaghan at the weekend would certainly remind you of him.  The lad is certainly one to watch.

Leitrim

Leitrim are another county that have yet to taste defeat and indeed have been promoted to Division 3 with 2 games in hand.  A remarkable achievement for such a small county.

Mayo

Mayo came roaring into the league and won their first 3 matches.  They seemed to have found a few decent footballers in Ruane & Reape and things were looking up.  But they’ve hit a few blips since then with a loss to Dublin and Galway.  It’s not the end of the world but maybe they have missed their chance at a league final place which surely they should be aiming for to prepare themselves for the Super 8s. They are badly missing Cillian O’Connor and Tom Parsons it has to be said and with Keegan and O’Shea yet to find form, it’s hard to see them getting any points v Kerry with Kerry going so well right now. But they are nothing if not resilient so watch this space…
